The proposal
Slide 2:
I would see this film to be shot in a fairly minimalist style to ensure that i do not over dramatise the shots which would allow me to emphasise the strengths and emotions being portrayed.
Slide 3:
The majority of the shots will have block shadowing with fairly low level lighting to further extend the characters struggles, locking herself away from any light giving the impression of her being enveloped in a lonely atmosphere.
slide 4: and 5
Focusing purely on the opening scene, this creates a strong establishing shot for the rest of the films mood
I would play heavily on the use of rain using it as some of the only sound you can hear within the scene to create a sense of sadness and loneliness which would be further impacted by the character being only lit via street lights and passing cars headlights giving only short bursts of the protagonists facial expressions.
The majority of shots throughout would be close ups as this is a very personal film focusing on the main character and her struggles with very minimal sound from any non-diegetic sources as this creates a "forced" feel for the character where as, if there is no music to back up the emotion you can feel a stronger connection with the character just from an eerie silence and their emotions being played off well
Slide 6
Looking at this scene from "7 pounds" it has the same characteristics and styles that i would want to portray in the short film making it clear how strong organ donation can impact more than one life
Slide 7
I want to see the main character - Katie - to be seen as someone who struggles with grief, displaying a sense of vulnerability.
I did some research into actresses within the local area for the purpose of making the script come to life when i came across an actress called Stacey Devonport who has done various shows and vocal acting which is perfect as i really want emotion to be portrayed through the voice so you can completely grasp the struggles shes going through
Slide 8
Each location in the script is 100% achievable in the local area meaning that the film can easily done without any unrealistic expectations.
The only location that i could see that there may have been some difficulty with was the hospital, but, after research i found out that there is a student hospital available that could be used. Houses are easily accessible for anyone and all of the driving scenes i the rain are achievable as there isn't many times the UK doesn't see rain.
Slide 9
i decided to add in a couple of scenes to try and give a little more depth into the impact of a loss as powerful as a father as well as keeping up the impact of organ donation
A scene i would introduce would consist of a memory with Katie and her father at a memorable location which i thought would fit well as being the Malvern hills. This would be a memory of her being taken on walks on bright warm days to emphasise how happy she was when she was with him which would then cut to her back in the current day looking at pictures in an album.
Slide 10
Moving onto the final shot, i wanted to introduce a change that would really display the impacts and benefits of organ donation.
For the scene, she would overcome her grief deciding to finally meet the man that has her fathers heart. This scene would be at the Malvern hills location that i had introduced to the script creating a strong emotional attachment.
The scene would end on the line "He's been waiting for you" followed by the camera zooming out from them as the voice over starts to then pan into the sky with the words "Organ donation isn't just about changing lives, organ donation is the gift of life".
