in our short 5 minute film, we ran into a few issues when discovering the location we wanted to use which meant that our original idea for a bigger 'warehouse' type area was cut short to a much more confined area of a bathroom. Despite this, having such a narrow environment meant that the scenes we shot were a lot closer tot he character and made viewers feel her pain in such a small confined place. to avoid this in the future allowing ourselves more planning time would be efficient.
Using warmer colours for the opposite scenes, allowed for clear distribution between the cold environment the victim was in compared to the detectives in the office.
the props that we had used in the background could've been cleared much more efficiently to give a much more immersed environment to get the real feeling that these characters were in an office and not a university flat. as well as this, to help improve narrative i believe that using much more shot reverse shots would have been much more beneficial to show the intensity of the situation.
The idea of having two scenes set to one complete narrative helped us in the sense that we got to tell a bigger story in only 5 minutes as we were able to cover the important moments via voices lapping over the opposite scenes although this could maybe have been done slightly more smoothly by having the detective explain the ways the "radio killer" would kill his victims instead of the radio killer saying them in the scene for more suspense as we quickly see the victim go through the tasks.
I personally feel that i could have edited some scenes a bit smoother for context, for example the "acid scene" felt slightly rushed and you weren't able to hear the voice over clearly as some sound levels were slightly higher than others although this can be bought down to there being too much filming for the possible final edit as we had created quite a strong narrative that we wanted to delve deeper into and to do this it would have meant that we would have gone over much more that 5 minutes, therefore i used everything we had in separate scenes where some would also overlap.
We managed to follow the gory type of context, following from the likes of saw.
opening shot was received really well via an audience which set the scene for the rest of the short film. We also got an insight from an audience who also said that it would have possibly made the narrative slightly better by having the two in the office as a personal investigator instead, this could have lead to more exploration in the surroundings of the characters adding materials on the wall of the investigators room with pictures and pins to link different situations together. As well as this we could have introduced a signature from the radio killer that was reminiscent from that of jigsaw as he always left a puzzle piece on his victims we could have maybe incorporated this much more to give the same style of effect!
